Stamford Underage Drinking Attorney

Are you under 21 and charged with DUI? (Or is your teenage son or daughter charged with drunk driving?) The law can impose severe penalties on young drivers. In fact, the threshold is lower and the drivers license sanctions are harsher.

The Law Offices of Daniel P. Weiner in Stamford, Connecticut, provides skilled and aggressive DUI defense in Stamford, Greenwich, Darien and throughout Fairfield County. We regularly defend high school students, college students and other young adults accused of underage drinking and driving. Contact us to set up a free consultation.

Zero Tolerance if You Are Under 21

For adults, driving under the influence (DUI) is charged at .08 BAC (blood-alcohol content). For any driver under the age of 21, Connecticut's zero tolerance law puts the threshold at .02 BAC. In other words, any alcohol in your system or on your breath is grounds for arrest and license suspension.

Criminal defense lawyer Daniel P. Weiner handles both the criminal proceedings and the license suspension aspect of underage DUI. He looks for every opportunity to avoid a conviction, from challenging the basis for arrest to use of pretrial alternatives that will result in eventual dismissal of the charges.

Fighting for Your Driving Privileges

A first offense of underage DUI is subject to license suspension of six months, double the adult penalty. If the first offense is a per se DUI (.08 or higher), suspension is one year. A second offense before age 21 carries suspension of 18 months. A third offense results in a four-year license revocation.

We understand that loss of license seriously affects your life. At your driver's license suspension hearing, attorney Weiner will fight to keep your license or to obtain a work permit that allows you to drive to work or school.

Underage Alcohol Offenses

Underage drinking (minor in possession of alcohol) is only an infraction at present. However, it can have consequences for sports eligibility and driving privileges. Presenting a fake ID to obtain alcohol can be considered a felony under Connecticut law. Furnishing alcohol to a minor (a 21-year-old buying beer for underage friends) is a misdemeanor. You need aggressive legal representation to favorably resolve these charges and keep them off of your record.
